The Swiss company Art Ambition wished to promote the “YES” series of furnishings through exhibitions in various places. The first of these presentations took place as part of the Shanghai World Trade Fair, in the United Nations’ VIP enclosure and lasted 6 months. This was followed by a second 6-month exhibition, again in Shanghai, in a highly select club of 15 members, all enthusiasts and collectors of contemporary art. October 2010 saw the creation of a second ultra-luxury piece and its presentation in Moscow, in the Manege at the Kremlin. The piece is called “Étoile Rouge” (“Red Star”) and is a desk made of ebony inlaid with a symbolic marquetry design in the shape of a star composed of 750 rubies. The ultra-luxury pieces I have designed over the past two years correspond to a new concept; I am working with ultra-speculative materials but with a different, non-speculative aim. Rather than mere functional furniture, I am creating works designed to tell stories, designed to pass down a heritage. |
